If you have ever bought a pair of raw denim jeans, you might have heard many advices, such as not to wash them ever, there are myths that we will clarify today and tricks that will show you the correct way to take care of your jeans and make sure they last you for a longer period of time.

“The good thing about denim jeans is that they are easy to take care of, their maintenance has a really low cost and with the correct treatment, they can last you for years”, advised Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

One of the main questions for raw denim jeans owners is when to wash them, many people considers it a real mistake to wash them before their first 6 months but this is inaccurate, a raw denim of good quality is manufactured specially to resist as many washes you would like to give it.

When washing your raw denim jeans, there are some things you will have to consider as we will show you now:

  • All jeans, no matter what their wash or type of fabric is, will shrink. If you buy unsanforized jeans, keep in mind that they will shrink about a 5 to 10% after their first wash and dry. For sanforized jeans, they stretch out once again after they are washed, except for the inseam length.
  • Remember that using cold water is the best option as the hottest the water is, the more your jeans will bleed and tend to shrink.
  • If you hand wash your jeans, you will want to make sure that the area is perfectly clean and free from chemicals that could damage, stain or bleach out your jeans.
  • If your raw denim jeans only have a small stain on them, we recommend you to clean the spot instead of washing them, washing your jeans will depend on how often you wear them.

“Taking the correct care of your jeans is an easy task that will bring you many benefits and guarantee you will have this garment with you for more time, so it is very important to always follow the care instructions indicated on the jeans”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.
